Portsmouth City Council is proposing to close the Inclusion Centre at St Edmund’s Catholic School from 31 August 2026.
This change reflects how support for children and young people with hearing or visual impairments has evolved. Thanks to advances in technology and the growing expertise of staff in mainstream schools—supported by our specialist Vision and Hearing Impairment (VHI) service—young people are now thriving in inclusive classroom environments.
We are committed to ensuring that all children with additional needs continue to receive the right support. This proposal is part of our ongoing work to improve outcomes for children and young people across the city, and to make sure our services are inclusive, sustainable, and meet the needs of our communities.
